So as you can see, the uses of natural gas and plentiful and since it costs far less than many other energy sources, we are not going to stop using natural gas very soon.

However, there is a problem brewing in Canada that if left unattended would drive natural gas prices substantially higher from today’s levels. The problem is that due to higher extraction, operating, labor and drilling costs, the costs of bringing a new well on-stream has risen substantially but since natural gas closed Friday at $6.56 US per million British thermal units in New York, many industry watchers and analysts predict a dramatic slowdown in drilling activity which in turn will negatively affect production growth.

Have costs really risen?

According to the Conference Board of Canada, the total costs for extracting natural gas last year (2006) increased by 10.1% and costs to drill and bring on a new gas well averaged about $5.05 per thousand cubic feet last year compared to $1.90 in 1995. Additionally, operating costs are expected to rise an average of 4.1% per year between 2007 and 2011. The result, according to the Conference Board of Canada, is that industry profits fell to $9.5 billion in 2006, about 25% lower than 2005’s $12.7 billion. The board also expects natural gas production to increase by only 0.2% this year. Production and gas exports will then decline in the coming years, as conventional gas production in Alberta steadily declines.

Impact on Drilling Activity?

Industry groups such as the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors and the Petroleum Services Association of Canada are expecting a 20 per cent drop in the number of wells drilled this year — the first year fewer than 20,000 wells will be drilled in more than half a decade. Evidence of this drop is already being seen in rig utilization rates in Western Canada as data released last week showed a mere 231 rigs working, less than half last year’s 473. Even multinational companies like Nabors (NBR:NYSE), which operates 81 drilling rigs and 180 service rigs in Canada are feeling the price pinch, as evidenced by the following comment made by Nabors CEO Gene Isenberg in a conference in February: “Our lower 48 and Canadian results have been adversely affected by the gas prices.”

So why is a drop in drilling activity so important when levels of natural gas in storage are nearing 5 year highs?

The reason is because Canada is not replenishing its natural gas supplies at a quick enough pace to meet existing and future demand. According to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Canada is the world’s third-largest natural gas producer and the number one supplier of gas imports to the U.S. Canada produces about 6.2 trillion cubic feet annually, and exports more than half of it to our neighbors south of the border. Total gas exports fell nominally in 2006, by about three per cent, however Martin King, a commodities analyst at FirstEnergy Capital Corp., expects that figure to accelerate to about 12 per cent, or more than a billion cubic feet a day, by the end of the year. King believes the numbers are a manifestation of lower drilling activity as big producers like EnCana Corp. (ECA:TSX) and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNQ:TSX) have pulled back on capital spending. Additionally, according to Bill Gwozd, Vice-President of gas services with Ziff Energy Group, Alberta’s oil sands use 600,000 cubic feet a day to generate steam and power needed to separate oil from the tar-soaked sands. That figure is expected to rise to two billion cubic feet per day by 2015, a four-fold jump due almost entirely to the proliferation of new in-situ oil sands projects. In addition to growing demand for oil sands, the province of Ontario is increasing its own natural gas demand as it retires aging coal-fired power plants to reduce carbon emissions. At the same time as demand is increasing, he says Canadian production is expected to fall to about 17 bcf per day from about 18 bcf at present. Furthermore, Gwozd added that by 2015, Canadian production will be down by at least three bcf per day while demand will be up by three bcf per day. Ziff’s analysis includes several key assumptions, most significant that the Mackenzie Valley pipeline comes into service by 2014 followed by Alaska in 2018. Any additional delays would exacerbate an already gloomy supply picture, Gwozd said.

So how high must Natural Gas prices go before drilling activity can resume at its required rate?

Expert firms such as Ziff Energy and FirstEnergy Capital Corp. estimate the natural gas industry now requires natural-gas prices of $8.50 to $9 per thousand cubic feet to recover costs and generate a 15 per cent return, a big difference from natural gas prices in Canada today, which hover around $6.56.

Natural Gas Price from a Technical Standpoint

After failing to breakout from around the $8.50 price level natural gas has now broken below both its 50 and 200 day moving averages. Although the MACD indicator seems pretty bearish for natural gas at the moment, both the RSI and slow Stochastics are showing sings of a bottom. So I think natural gas might drift between a $5.75 and $6.50 which has been its historic trading range, for the rest of the summer season.

Fundamental Outlook

With natural gas in storage at sufficiently high levels, there exists no immediate impetus for prices to head higher. However, if a major hurricane does happen to strike that could send natural gas prices upward by about $2 or more. In the absence of a major hurricane, however, natural gas will continue to drift sideways and remain in a trading range (between $5.75 and $6.50). Additionally, with the Canadian dollar hitting 30 year highs against the U.S. dollar, producers exporting to the U.S. are also feeling the pinch currency wise. So all in all, the near term picture for natural gas isn’t looking too good and hence the future call for higher natural gas prices on my part because current natural gas prices don’t support a reasonable environment for natural gas producers and explorers to continue searching for and replenishing their diminishing supplies. With little investment going into searching for new supplies and demand remaining stable, the supply demand picture gets skewed and eventually prices will go up to reflect that imbalance.

Summary

As a long term investor I’m convinced we’re going to have higher natural gas prices. As the uses of natural gas will continue to remain, demand will also remain robust however, due the points I have outlined above supply will eventually become constrained due to lack of drilling. For drilling to resume natural gas prices have to average $8.50 to $9 per thousand cubic feet for prolonged periods of time in order to inspire and cause existing producing companies to increase their cap ex budgets. So, as natural gas prices continue to move sideways and drift lower during the summer, it makes sense to chip away and accumulate positions in low cost producers.

Related posts:

One Day the Fuel Oil Prices are Affordable the Next They are Skyrocketing

How Forecasts for Electricity Prices in 2010 Will Affect You

How the Current Heating Oil Prices are Determined

Creating an Encryption Utility in C# Part One

Encryption

Administration Screen

Binary Data

Binary Format

Cryptosystem

Decryption Algorithm

Encrypted Data

Encryption Algorithm

Recipient

Secret Key

Symmetric Algorithms

By: Programminghelp.comIn this three part series we are going to create an Encryption utility that can take a string value and turn it into an Encrypted Binary value, and then we will take that Binary value and turn it into a Base 64 encoded string that you can cut and paste into a Web Config [...]Related posts:

Creating a Forex Trading Plan

Creating the Job You Would Love to Have

Investment Banking Career Change: Creating The Perfect Investment Banking Cv

By: Programminghelp.com
In this three part series we are going to create an Encryption utility that can take a string value and turn it into an Encrypted Binary value, and then we will take that Binary value and turn it into a Base 64 encoded string that you can cut and paste into a Web Config file or to be used as a password to pass back and forth between services. Why do we do it this way?

Because the string you want to encrypt is in a text format and encrypted data is in a binary format it is necessary to do some conversion between those formats. Base64 is a well known and broadly used method to send binary data as pure text.

We will also be creating a GUI front end that will allow you to type values into a text field and then encrypt that value. This will also allow you to take values that are encrypted and decrypt them to their original value. In the end we will have a fully functional utility that allows encryption and decryption and a working class that we can consume into any application web or windows that allows us to add another level of security. At that point the GUI front end will become your administration screen and allow you to have one central location to decrypt and encrypt values for all of your needs.

What is an Encryption and Decryption Cryptosystem?

In a symmetric cryptosystem we will use the same key in both the encryption and the decryption processes. These two processes are similar in most ways. However, some parts of these processes will follow a reversed order of each other (e.g. for AES, the decryption algorithm will follow a reversed order of the encryption algorithm).

In a symmetric cryptosystem we will divide the data into smaller blocks and encrypt them all one by one using a secret key that we have generated. Then, we will use those blocks and send them to the recipient as a whole. Then, on the recipient side, we will apply the decryption process using that same key, and in doing so restore the value to its original form.

Symmetric algorithms are extremely fast compared to asymmetric cipher algorithms and are well suited for performing cryptographic transformations on a larger scale. The most popular symmetric cipher algorithms are DES, AES and TripleDES. TripleDES uses DES three times in sequence with different keys. Top companies have long found it makes good business sense to outsource a business function — from making parts to delivering payroll — to wherever it can be done the best. With the Telecommunications Act of 1996 came the wave of fiber-optic cable and a new capability that truly enabled the IT departments of U.S. companies to plug into offshore outsourcing firms and take advantage of lower wages and cost efficiencies.

Many of these same companies have R&D departments developing embedded software and hardware and now the CTOs want to leverage offshore vendors to not only reap the same benefits of lower wages and expanded productivity, but bring better products to market sooner. Although the potential benefits are there, companies must consider two things before offshoring embedded R&D technology. First, the requirements of an R&D department that does embedded technology development for the marketplace and those of an IT department that serves employees are not the same. Second, a country’s human capital may be good quality for IT projects, but may not be the best choice to meet the higher skill levels required for R&D embedded technology.

Basically, the technology offshoring choices boils down to two: China or India. China is known as “the world’s factory” and produces $60 billion worth of consumer electronic goods a year. India, known as “the offshore call center,” is the acknowledged leader in IT and business process outsourcing (BPO).1

Whether a CTO is searching for an offshore outsourcing vendor for a single project or a long-term partnership, the vendor’s country should be a significant part of the due diligence.

Engineering Talent Pool

The highly respected National Academies notes in an October, 2005 report that a company could potentially employ five chemists in China or 11 engineers in India for the cost of one chemist or engineer in the United States. Wages are lower offshore, there’s no question about that. Long Circle, however, suggests that companies must look further and examine additional important criteria when searching for the best country to outsource embedded product research and development technology.

? Pay attention to attrition and wages

The number one reason most companies send work offshore is because wages are less. Experts recommend that engineering wages stay within the range of 20 to 50 percent lower than wages in the U.S. to make offshoring worthwhile. However an important factor to keep in mind is that the rules of supply and demand apply in offshoring and inevitably result in rising wages.

According to a report released in June, 2005 by management consulting company McKinsey and Company, India faces a shortage of middle managers due to the growth of India’s IT industry by approximately 20 percent annually over the last 10 years. Wages for IT project managers have increased by 23 percent annually over the last four years. 2

Attrition rates in India have been estimated at anywhere from 20 percent to 50 percent. Turnover is a problem and many firms are looking for ways to retain their workers in addition to increased wages. According to a Businessweek article in February, 2005, India: Good Help Is Hard To Find, a prominent vendor is using creative ways to hire middle managers and to reduce attrition — from finding homes for new hires to helping their children with school admissions.

Industry analysts acknowledge that India is the seasoned player in offshore IT technology and wages are rising, while China is newer to the offshoring industry and wages in China are lower.

? Is the R&D pool deep enough, with enough new graduates and experienced engineers?

Although both China and India have excellent universities and engineering programs, a very real concern for a company looking to offshore embedded systems R&D development is: Does this country have a large enough pool of R&D engineers, both new graduates and young engineers with seven years or less of experience? If not, supply and demand may eventually drive the costs up and possibly impact deadlines.

New graduates. The exact number of four-year engineering graduates each country produces yearly is open to debate.

The statistics cited in the first row of the chart below have been widely quoted in the media, from Fortune Magazine to a speech by Senator Ted Kennedy. However according to the Wall Street Journal online, these figures are misleading and no one can track down a concrete and reliable source for where the numbers originated.

Engineering Graduates	China	India	United States

Source: Unknown 600,000	350,000	70,000

Source: Duke University	352,000	112,000	137,000

The statistics in the second row of the chart are from a study released in December, 2005 by Duke University (and also widely quoted in the media, including The Christian Science Monitor) that cites different numbers for the engineering graduates in each country.

Regardless of the actual number, statistics show that China produces the most engineering graduates each year.

Experienced engineers. The offshore country’s workforce must have depth of experience as well. In a press release issued in February to review the industry’s performance during 2005, NASSCOM said that in India, IT service workers clearly dominate engineering R&D workers. According to NASSCOM, in 2005 there were 316,000 workers in the ITES-BPO segment and only 93,000 workers in the engineering services and R&D and software products segment. This trend is expected to continue during 2006.

By comparison, a McKinsey and Company report says that four percent of the total university-educated workforce in India has an engineering degree, compared to 33 percent in China.2

When selecting an offshore vendor for embedded technology, the vendor must not only have sufficient human capital (both new graduates and experienced engineers) to complete the development project, but the experience of the workforce must be product research and development, instead of merely IT experience.

University educated workforce

with engineering degree:

India: 4%

China: 33 %

? Potential culture and language barriers

Although engineers do not necessarily require a good command of English to perform their job, communication could be an obstacle unless there are English-speaking employees at points-of-contact with the customer.

In India, English (although not American English) is the second language and companies can expect offshore employees to communicate well.

While English is not as common for the average Chinese citizen, the situation is different for college graduates in China. To be admitted to college in China, high school graduates take five exams, and three of those exams — Chinese literature, math, and English — are required. To attend the top universities, students must obtain near perfect scores on their exams — including English. The result is that top university graduates in China do have good English language skills.

Infrastructure: How are the roads and the utilities?

On August 8, 2008, the world will focus on China when the 2008 Summer Olympic Games begin in Beijing. China is taking great pride in hosting the Olympic Games and is focusing on improving infrastructure for the expected visitors from around the world.

According to news reports:

•	Beijing will spend an estimated $38 billion for new urban infrastructure, including building and renovating roads and railroads, building subway and light rail lines and building sites for Olympic venues.

•	Natural gas will replace many coal-burning heating plants.

•	A third airport terminal in Beijing will double the airport’s capacity.

India’s infrastructure, on the other hand, is generally viewed as lacking. For example, the International Diamond Exchange (IDEX) noted in a recent online report that although India potentially could become the leading market for diamonds in the future, India currently faces major obstacles such as India’s heavy dependence on imported energy and poor infrastructure. IDEX laments, “India’s infrastructure is dismal. For example, roads are poor and land-based communications don’t work.”

However, according to an article on indiadaily.com, “… improving India’s potholed highways, congested ports and erratic telecommunications and blackout-plagued power service is vital to drawing foreign investment and bolstering the economy further, economists say.” The Indian government has forecasted growth of 6.9 percent during the year ending March 31, 2005, which means India has the second-fasted growing economy after China. 4

When evaluating outsourcing vendors, companies should keep in mind that U.S. personnel will undoubtedly visit the vendor’s offshore facilities from time to time.

Intellectual Property Protection

Both India and China have reputations that are less than stellar when it comes to protecting intellectual property. China especially is notorious for copyright infringement. However media sources reported recently that an intellectual property milestone was reached when a U.S. business was sued for patent infringement in Texas federal court by a mainland Chinese plaintiff. Experts predict that when Chinese companies begin to police their own IP infringement, the Chinese government will become more vigilant in protecting the intellectual property of foreign countries within China.

China’s membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) is also viewed as driving reform.

Companies should scrutinize a potential vendor’s security protocols to ensure that a potential vendor adheres to the best-of-class security protocols found in U.S. companies.

Conclusion

When early outsourcing projects involved IT and Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) the majority of companies turned to India. However, outsourcing IT development and BPO is not the same as outsourcing embedded product research and development; that’s comparing apples to oranges. The requirements and skill levels are not the same. Companies must evaluate not only the outsourcing vendor’s qualifications, but the vendor’s offshore location as well to ensure companies realize the value they want to achieve. Long Circle recommends for a company’s R&D department to realize the greatest return on their outsourcing investment, there is no better place in the world than China.

About Long Circle

Long Circle provides outsourced engineering services to companies whose products and services rely on embedded software and hardware technology. Unfortunately it is entirely possible that 6 months from now these prices may seem low. It makes me wonder “can anything be done about the high price of gas?”

Truthfully, we have no control on what the oil companies are going to charge. The only thing we can do is try to maximize our savings on the other end. Things like walking more when possible, riding a bicycle, taking the bus, or even car pooling are all easy ways to save money right now.

Many times these are not possible and a better solution is to try and stretch the gas we just paid a high price for. Better gas mileage means fewer trips to the pump, which means more money in our pockets and it still allows us to stay mobile when we need to be.

Certainly the way we drive can affect the miles per gallon we get when driving, which affects our pocketbook as well. Things like driving fast, stopping and starting, accelerating and slowing down, how we maintain our vehicles, and other things like this can have a negative affect on how often we have to fill up at the pump as well.

Ethos FR is a product that has been gaining recognition for what it does to reduce engine wear, save on fuel and oil, and help increase gas mileage. Ethos Fuel Re-Formulator makes your engine run smoother, cleaner and with more power, all while increasing your fuel mileage on an average 7% to 19% . Depending how much you drive, this is a very significant savings to you.

Another benefit of using Ethos FR is that it allows you to do something good for the environment by reducing emissions, fuel consumption, and engine maintenance costs. It is easy to use by just adding 1 ounce in your gas tank for every 10 gallons of gas. It is also recommended to add it to your oil in the engine to help lubricate it as well. It is a biodegradable and non-toxic product that you could even drink without causing harm to your body. It works with any type of fuel and is being used all over the world in both commercial and individual vehicles.

To summarize this article, Ethos FR helps you save money by allowing your vehicle to burn the fuel more efficiently all while helping keep the environment clean. We know that the high price of gas is not going to go down, but it will probably keep going up. Now you can do something about that with Ethos FR.

Related posts:

How to Avoid High Oil Prices

Gas Prices Aren’t That High, Comparatively…

Oil Price History, Shortened

Chogha Zanbil, Where The First Civilizations Has Begun In Iran

Unesco world heritage

Archaeological Excavations

Dezfoul

Iran Tourist

Iran Tours

Iranian Site

Royal Palaces

Storage Rooms

Three Concentric Walls

Unesco World Heritage List

Ziggurat

By: SufiIran tourist attractions in Elamite times

It lies approximately 25 kilometeres west Dezfoul, 45 kilometres south of Susa and 230 kilometres north of Abadan by way of Ahvaz, which is 120 kilometres away.

It was built about 1250 BC by the king Untash-Napirisha, mainly to honor the great god Inshushinak. Its original name was Dur Untash, which means ‘town of Untash’, but it is unlikely that many people, besides priests and servants, ever lived there. The complex is protected by three concentric walls which define the main areas of the ‘town’. The inner area is wholly taken up with a great ziggurat dedicated to the main god, which was built over an earlier square temple with storage rooms also built by Untash-Napirisha. The middle area holds eleven temples for lesser gods. It is believed that twenty-two temples were originally planned, but the king died before they could be finished, and his successors discontinued the building work. In the outer area are royal palaces, a funerary palace containing five subterranean royal tombs.

Although construction in the city abruptly ended after Untash-Napirisha’s death, the site was not abandoned, but continued to be occupied until it was destroyed by the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal in 640 BCE. Some scholars speculate, based on the large number of temples and sanctuaries at Chogha Zanbil, that Untash-Napirisha attempted to create a new religious center (possibly intended to replace Susa) which would unite the gods of both highland and lowland Elam at one site.

Archaeological excavations undertaken between 1951 and 1962 revealed the site again, and the ziggurat is considered to be the best preserved example in the world. In 1979, Chogha Zanbil became the first Iranian site to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Related posts:

Visit Iran to See Its UNESCO Sites

What You Must See On Your Holidays To Iran

Art and Culture of Abyane, A Village visiting in iran tour

Healthy Snacks, the bigger picture of organic and purposeful eating

World health organization

Cellular Level

Energy Bar

Flavors

Healthy Snack

Healthy Snacks

Old Adage

Organic Connection

Snack Bar

Tart Cherries

Whole Foods

By: Alice BrooksThe old adage “You are what you eat” is coming full circle. How many times have we heard this and not really thought about what it means? Truly our bodies – right down to the cellular level – have only one source from which to build bones, muscle, brain, organ and tissue. That source is the food we consume. People everywhere are becoming more aware of this important organic connection, healthy snacks and organic foods are available in stores around the world – i.e., Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Meijer Foods, Henry’s – are more are wisely catering to this newfound awareness.

Bottom line, people have begun eating with purpose. “ Purposeful eating” is the act of looking for specific important nutrients our bodies need within the food we consume. It’s saying yes to healthy snacks and no to candy bars.

It’s actively looking for high antioxidant foods like 100% organic wild blueberries and tart cherries and choosing to consume these foods because they serve a purpose for our bodies. (Our Pure bars offer the highest, 100% organic antioxidant foods in 6 chewy, moist snack bar flavors.) It’s about knowing Omega 3 fats are good for our heart and brain, and seeking them out in sources like walnuts, flaxseed and salmon. (Our Pure energy bars are loaded with Omega 3s!) It’s about choosing healthy, energetic snacks and pick-me-up athletic support for ourselves and their children. (Hint: Kids love our Pure Chocolate Brownie bars the best!)

That’s why the people at Pure Bar created a certified organic healthy energy bar for you. They’ve taken all the best that Mother Nature provides, molded it into a rich, chewy healthy snack bar, and made it available to you across the country in fine retailers such as Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Mother’s, Ralph’s, Henry’s and others. (To find the store nearest you, simply click on a link below) Kids love them as much as Mom and Dad.

This shift in mentality … this purposeful eating … is changing the landscape of our retail stores. Because we are demanding it, grocers like the aforementioned Trader Joe’s , Whole Foods, and Mother’s Market’s are providing more organic, super-fresh, nourishing food. Consumers are looking for more than a good taste and colorful package. They want quality that will taste great and also provide their bodies with the essential nutrients necessary to achieve optimal health, energy and life.

And, luckily for us, we no longer have to give up taste in the quest for superb nutrients. In fact those who have truly embarked on the journey of organic, fresh food know that it tastes better and satisfies our cravings like no processed food is able. It’s what our bodies were meant to live on!

Purposeful eating is also enjoyable eating. Once you try a Pure healthy energy bar, you’ll know there’s no reason to settle for anything less!

Related posts:

What Everybody Should Know About Eating Organic

Can Eating These Organic Foods Assist in Re-growing Thinning Hair?

Usda Certified Organic Dog Foods
